Sumter County, FL (October 29, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Monday evening that resulted in the death of a 63-year-old bicyclist from Wildwood. The collision took place around 7:15 p.m. on US-301, west of Mizell Street.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a Ford F-250, driven by a 37-year-old man from Ocala, was traveling westbound on US-301 when the bicyclist, who was riding eastbound in the westbound lane without lights, was struck. The driver of the truck reportedly did not see the bicyclist in time to avoid the collision, leading to fatal injuries.
Emergency responders transported the bicyclist to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.
