Melbourne, FL (October 28, 2024) – A tragic traffic accident occurred early Saturday morning on Interstate 95, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old woman. The incident took place just after midnight as she was driving southbound near the Pineda Causeway exit.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the young woman was operating a 2010 Lexus at a high speed, weaving in and out of traffic on the darkened highway. She had three passengers in the vehicle, including a 16-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl, and an 18-year-old woman, all from Melbourne.
Reports indicate that the 19-year-old failed to stop for a tractor-trailer and collided with the rear of the truck. The impact caused the Lexus to spin and come to a stop in the outside lane of the highway. After the crash, the woman exited the vehicle and was subsequently struck by a Ford F-150. The pickup truck veered off the road and collided with a light pole.
Tragically, another vehicle, a 2023 Toyota Camry traveling southbound, then ran over the woman as she lay on the highway. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. One passenger in the Lexus sustained minor injuries, while the other occupants at the crash site declined medical treatment.
