Chapel Hill, NC (October 27, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred on Saturday, October 26, at approximately 1:50 PM in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 near mile marker 268, just past Sunrise Road. Emergency responders were alerted to the scene following reports of the incident, which resulted in one fatality and injuries to another individual.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, two people were riding on a motorcycle when the driver of a nearby car attempted to merge into their lane due to congested traffic. This maneuver led to a collision between the motorcycle and the car, causing both individuals on the bike to be thrown from their vehicle.
