St. Petersburg, FL (October 26, 2024) – A serious traffic accident occurred early Thursday morning that left one man critically injured and another man arrested. At approximately 2 a.m., Pinellas County deputies attempted to pull over a 2017 Infiniti Q602S for speeding and reckless driving on 33rd Street North. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Rufus Brown Jr., failed to stop, prompting deputies to refrain from pursuing the vehicle.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Brown lost control of the Infiniti as it crossed the intersection of 58th Avenue North and 28th Street North, colliding with two unoccupied parked vehicles. The impact of the crash resulted in severe injuries to his passenger, 20-year-old Jeremiah Brown, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
After the collision, Rufus Brown fled the scene, leaving Jeremiah behind. Deputies located Rufus shortly thereafter, and he was arrested after receiving treatment for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.
Rufus Brown Jr. faces multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding law enforcement, driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury, two counts of driving under the influence involving property damage, leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, two counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, resisting an officer without violence, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and violation of probation related to firearm possession.
