Buffalo, NY (October 24, 2024) – Early Thursday morning, an incident occurred in the City of Buffalo that resulted in injuries to two police officers. At approximately 1 a.m., Buffalo Police responded to a call in the area of Kerns Avenue, where a significant police presence was noted.

According to a Buffalo Police official, the two officers sustained injuries during the incident, with one officer reportedly struck by a vehicle. Fortunately, both officers’ injuries are considered non-life threatening. The events leading to the incident began around midnight when an officer responded to a trespassing complaint on Blake Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man and a woman inside a parked vehicle in a driveway. Officers instructed the occupants to unlock the doors and open the windows; however, the male occupant jumped into the driver’s seat and started the vehicle instead.

Police described the driver’s actions as reckless, as the vehicle moved both forward and in reverse, ultimately driving through shrubs and a fence before colliding with a pole in the backyard of a residence on Kerns Avenue. Following the collision, both individuals, identified as 34-year-old Larry Rogers of West Seneca and 23-year-old Kayanna Lee of Buffalo, were arrested. According to police reports, while the female occupant was apprehended without incident, the male occupant resisted being handcuffed.

During the arrest, authorities recovered approximately 2.7 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a scale, and $1,823 in cash. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
