Tulsa, OK (October 23, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred at Bradford Apartments in north Tulsa, resulting in the death of a three-year-old boy following a hit-and-run accident. Police received initial reports of the accident around 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday evening, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
Upon arrival, officers found the young child who had been struck by a vehicle. Surveillance footage from the apartment complex indicated that a car was traveling at a speed of 25-30 miles per hour when the accident occurred. Witnesses reported seeing the child running across the parking lot just before being hit by the vehicle. The impact caused the vehicle to drag the child approximately 5-10 feet.
In the aftermath of the collision, the driver was confronted by residents of the complex, leading to an altercation. Fearing for his safety, the driver fled the scene. During his departure, some residents discharged firearms, hitting the vehicle twice. The driver later returned to the scene after noticing police presence and subsequently turned himself in.
Authorities do not currently believe that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident; however, he was taken to the hospital for a blood test as part of the investigation. The driver was initially taken into custody but has since been released pending further investigation.
Our hearts go out to the family and community affected by this devastating loss.
