Houston County, AL (October 23, 2024) – A motor vehicle accident occurred early Tuesday morning on Highway 231 South at Coskrey Road, prompting a swift response from local emergency services. At approximately 5:41 a.m., Houston County 911 dispatched units to the scene of the crash.
Emergency responders from Rehobeth Fire – Rescue, the Houston County Sheriff’s Department, and ALEA Troopers were dispatched to assist. Dothan Police Sgt. Blake McAllister, who was near the location and about to conclude his shift, was the first local officer to arrive on the scene. A Panama City Beach Police Officer, traveling through the area, also stopped to assist Sgt. McAllister until additional emergency units arrived.
Preliminary reports indicate that two vehicles were traveling northbound on Highway 231 when one vehicle struck the rear of the second vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the road, ending up in a ditch on the embankment on the east side of the northbound lanes of traffic.
Three patients were involved in the accident, prompting the Rehobeth Fire – Rescue Squad Truck and two ambulances to transport them for medical evaluation. Rehobeth Fire – Rescue Chief Nick Floyd, along with Hodgesville Volunteer Fire Chief and Cottonwood Rescue Captain Beau Deathridge, were on the scene to oversee the response. Houston County Sheriff Deputy Chase Goldsten also assisted at the location.
The investigation into the accident is being led by ALEA Trooper Carlton, who will assess the circumstances surrounding the collision.
