Jasper, MO (October 20, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on October 19, 2024, at approximately 8:35 PM on Interstate 49, one mile south of Jasper. The incident involved a motorized bicycle and a Buick Enclave, leading to a fatality and prompting a response from local emergency services.
Preliminary reports indicate that 21-year-old David J. Hurick Baughman from Larmar, MO, was riding a Phatmoto motorized bicycle northbound in the driving lane when he was struck from behind by a 2009 Buick Enclave driven by 71-year-old Stephen E. Broddle from Kansas City, KS. The collision resulted in total damage to the motorized bicycle, which was subsequently towed from the scene by S N S Wrecker. The Buick Enclave sustained moderate damage and was towed by S and S Wrecker.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where Baughman was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner Andrew Roughton at 9:35 PM. His next of kin has been notified of the tragic incident. This accident marks the 89th fatality crash for Troop D in 2024.
