St. Charles, MO (October 20, 2024) – A serious traffic accident occurred on October 18, 2024, at approximately 8:45 PM at the S Outer Rd ramp to I-70 eastbound. The incident involved multiple vehicles and required the response of local emergency services.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident began when a 2006 Suzuki GSXR600, driven by 31-year-old Steven R. Love from O’Fallon, IL, attempted to avoid another vehicle. In doing so, Love lost control, causing the front of his motorcycle to strike a guard rail. The motorcycle overturned, ejecting Love, who came to rest in lane two. The motorcycle subsequently slid into lane one.
As the accident unfolded, a 2003 Nissan Frontier, driven by 19-year-old Amilkar O. Martinez Chavarria from Indianapolis, IN, was following too closely behind the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 51-year-old Duron H. McLaurin from Wentzville, MO. In an attempt to avoid a collision with McLaurin’s vehicle, Martinez steered to the left, resulting in his truck striking the left rear of the Equinox. The Nissan then traveled off the left side of the roadway, hitting a concrete barrier, which caused its undercarriage to strike the overturned motorcycle.
Emergency responders, including the St. Charles Ambulance District, promptly arrived at the scene to provide assistance. Love sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for medical care. McLaurin, who experienced minor injuries, was taken by private conveyance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, IL. The driver of a 2022 Lincoln Navigator, Nicholas S. Grooms from Sullivan, IL, reported minor damage to his vehicle but was able to drive away from the scene.
