Highland County, OH (September 19, 2024) – A tragic two-car collision occurred on Friday evening, October 18, that resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. At approximately 6:21 p.m., the Ohio Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene at Prospect Road and State Route 73 intersection.
Preliminary investigations revealed that 54-year-old Freddie Merrick was driving a 2011 Ford Focus westbound on Prospect Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign. As a result, his vehicle collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Impala driven by 45-year-old Tamara Frazer, who was traveling southbound on State Route 73. The impact force caused both vehicles to skid into a nearby ditch.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene to assist. Tragically, Ms. Frazer was transported to the hospital but was later pronounced dead. Mr. Merrick sustained life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital for urgent medical care.
Additionally, two passengers were in Mr. Merrick’s vehicle at the time of the crash. 52-year-old Renetta Tolle was injured and hospitalized, while 35-year-old Adrich May suffered serious injuries and was also hospitalized. Reports indicate that Mr. Merrick was not wearing a seatbelt during the accident, while Ms. Frazer was properly restrained.
