Colfax, WA (October 18, 2024) – A serious traffic accident occurred Thursday morning in Wawawai Canyon, resulting in one person being airlifted to a hospital. Emergency services responded to the scene on Wawawai Road near milepost 11 around 10 a.m.
According to the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, the collision involved two trucks. The incident transpired when the driver of a northbound truck crossed the center line and collided with a southbound truck. The driver of the southbound truck sustained serious injuries and was trapped inside the vehicle until emergency responders could safely extricate him. He was subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Lewiston, where his current condition remains unknown.
The driver of the northbound truck received a citation for negligent driving but fortunately did not suffer any injuries in the crash. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing.
