Kissimmee, FL (October 18, 2024) – An Orlando woman was arrested following a hit-and-run incident that occurred Wednesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The crash took place around 4:20 p.m. near a residence along Neptune Road in Kissimmee.

Upon arrival at the scene, troopers discovered a white Ford Explorer with significant front-end damage parked outside the home. The homeowner and his daughter provided video footage that captured the events leading up to the crash. The footage revealed that the driver, later identified as 28-year-old Tharyana Guzman, and four passengers exited the vehicle after the collision. Guzman exited from the driver’s side, while the passengers reportedly exited through the sunroof.

According to the FHP report, Guzman left the scene without exchanging necessary information with the homeowner. Investigators later located her south of the crash site, where she was taken into custody. During the investigation, it was revealed that Guzman’s driver’s license had been suspended.

Troopers spoke with the four passengers to assess any injuries before addressing Guzman. When questioned about the incident, Guzman claimed she was never inside the vehicle and invoked her Fifth Amendment right. However, the trooper informed her that she was captured on camera in the driver’s seat during the crash.

Despite the evidence, Guzman continued to deny her presence in the vehicle at the time of the incident. The report noted that she had a swollen eye, which could have been a result of the airbag deploying on the driver’s side during the crash.

After the interview, the trooper attempted to discuss the necessary crash documentation with Guzman, but she expressed disinterest in the conversation. Consequently, she was arrested and is now facing charges for leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage. Guzman is currently being held on a bond of $1,000.

Hit-and-Run Accidents in Florida

Hit-and-run accidents are a serious concern in Florida, often leaving victims without the necessary information to seek compensation for damages. In these incidents, drivers may flee the scene for various reasons, including fear of legal repercussions or lack of insurance. The emotional and financial toll on victims can be substantial, as they may face costly repairs and medical expenses without the ability to hold the responsible party accountable.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, thousands of hit-and-run accidents occur each year, making it imperative for victims to understand their rights and options. If you find yourself involved in a hit-and-run accident, it is crucial to gather as much information as possible, including witness statements and any available video footage, as this can aid in the investigation.

Victims of hit-and-run accidents may be eligible for compensation through their own insurance policies, depending on the coverage they have. Additionally, consulting with a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can provide guidance on navigating the complexities of these cases and ensure that victims receive the support they need.
