Granby, MO (October 15, 2024) – A tragic motor vehicle accident occurred on October 14, at approximately 3:53 PM on Highway 86, about two miles south of Granby. The incident involved a Chevrolet Equinox and a Suzuki Boulevard motorcycle, resulting in a fatality.
According to the investigation conducted by SGT. K. Sanders and the Major Crash Investigation Unit, the accident transpired when the driver of the Chevrolet Equinox, identified as 48-year-old Melissa K. Rodriguez from Mount Vernon, attempted to make a left turn in front of the westbound motorcycle. The motorcycle, operated by 71-year-old James R. Stuart from Stark City, collided with the Equinox.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but unfortunately, James Stuart was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Coroner Jeremy Deems at 3:53 PM. His body was subsequently transported to the Newton County Coroner’s Office. This incident marks the 88th fatality reported by Troop D in 2024.
