Murray, KY (October 14, 2024) – A serious vehicle crash occurred in Calloway County on Friday, October 11, resulting in injuries to multiple individuals. According to Calloway County Fire-Rescue, emergency services were dispatched to the 2800 block of Midway Road around 5 p.m. following reports of a vehicle accident.
While en route, dispatchers informed responding units that the vehicle involved was on fire, but all occupants had managed to exit the vehicle safely. Upon arrival, emergency responders found a large U-Haul box truck that had exited the roadway in a curve and struck a tree head-on. In response to the situation, the roadway was immediately shut down to allow first responders to work safely.
Firefighters quickly began to combat the fire, which was located in the engine area and the cab of the truck, caused by the engine being pushed into the cab during the collision.
Murray/Calloway County Ambulance arrived on the scene to provide medical care to the three occupants of the truck. Emergency Medical Services had already requested Air Evac to respond to the scene. Air Evac Lifeteam 159 from Western Tennessee landed on-site to transport one patient with serious leg injuries to an out-of-state hospital. Meanwhile, Murray-Calloway County EMS transported the other two patients to Murray-Calloway County Hospital for further treatment of their injuries, where they were later released.
According to Calloway County Fire-Rescue, the response included one pumper, two tankers, two brush trucks, and two support trucks, involving a total of 12 firefighters. They were assisted at the scene by the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, Murray-Calloway County EMS, Air Evac Lifeteam, Calloway County Emergency Management, and Paul’s Towing & Recovery.
First responders remained on the scene for approximately two and a half hours to safely remove the vehicle and clear the area before returning to service.
