Groton, CT (October 14, 2024) – A serious accident occurred early Monday morning in the Mystic section of Groton, leaving four individuals under the age of 21 with serious injuries. The incident took place around 1:21 a.m. on Fishtown Road near Little Gull Lane, and police were alerted to the crash following an iPhone Crash Detection call, followed by multiple 911 calls.
The vehicle involved, a 2012 Toyota 4Runner, was the only one in the incident. Upon arrival, emergency crews found that all four occupants were trapped inside the vehicle after it went off the road, entered the woods, and collided with a tree. Emergency responders worked quickly to extract the individuals from the wreckage, providing immediate care at the scene before transporting them to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. According to police reports, all four were in critical condition upon arrival at the hospital.
Preliminary investigations by the Groton Police Department suggest that the driver was traveling north on Fishtown Road, just south of the Mystic River Magnet School, when the 4Runner crossed into the southbound lane, veered off the road, and struck a tree. One bystander, Desouza, shared, “What hurt me the most is that I have a daughter, and I heard the parent coming there and hearing him cry out his son’s name. That’s something that will never, like, leave my mind, you know what I mean.”
