Columbus, OH (October 9, 2024) – A tragic hit-and-run accident occurred on Interstate 270 in east Columbus on Tuesday night, October 8, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to two others. The Columbus Division of Police reported that officers were dispatched to the southbound lanes of I-270, just south of East Broad Street, around 10 PM, where they discovered three men who had been struck by a vehicle while outside their parked car along the berm.
One of the men, identified as 54-year-old Rafat Juaidi, was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at 10:38 PM. The other two men involved in the incident were also taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities have described the suspect vehicle as a beige-colored Chevrolet Malibu, likely manufactured between 2008 and 2012. The vehicle is believed to have sustained right front damage during the incident.
The southbound lanes of I-270 were closed for several hours as detectives conducted their investigation into the crash, reopening shortly after 1 AM.
