Immokalee, FL (October 9, 2024) – A devastating multi-vehicle crash occurred on State Road 82 near Edwards Grove Road, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and serious injuries to another motorist. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the incident took place just after 3:30 PM on Tuesday, as traffic was navigating the area ahead of Hurricane Milton.
According to troopers, all vehicles involved were traveling east on State Road 82 when a semitrailer, driven by a 24-year-old man from Immokalee, rear-ended a car operated by a 45-year-old woman from Austin, Texas. This initial collision caused the woman’s vehicle to rotate and subsequently collide with another car driven by a 57-year-old woman from Largo, who had a male passenger from Largo.
The impact of the collisions continued as the car from Largo rotated and struck a van driven by a 41-year-old man from Coconut Creek, Florida, as well as the semitrailer that initiated the chain reaction. Following this, the front of the van rear-ended a third vehicle driven by a 35-year-old man from St. Petersburg, who had a 4-year-old boy as a passenger. Fortunately, neither the man nor the child sustained any injuries.
Tragically, the two Largo motorists were pronounced dead at the scene. This incident adds to the alarming statistic reported by the Florida Highway Patrol, indicating that at least 41 people have lost their lives in crashes in Collier County this year alone.
