Clinton County, IA (October 9, 2024) – A devastating crash occurred Monday morning in eastern Iowa, resulting in the deaths of three juveniles and injuries to three others. The Iowa State Patrol reported that the incident took place around 9:15 a.m. in the 3700 block of Highway 30.
According to preliminary investigations, a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stopped in the outside lane when it was rear-ended by a 2023 Dodge 4500 pickup truck. The impact caused the Jeep to be pushed into the south ditch. Tragically, three juveniles, who were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, lost their lives. The Iowa State Patrol has not specified which vehicle the juveniles were in.
The driver of the Jeep and a passenger were both transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals by air ambulance. They were also reported to have not been wearing seatbelts. The driver of the Dodge, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital in Clinton by ground ambulance.
The Iowa State Patrol is withholding the names of the victims pending notification of their families. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
