Ocala, FL (October 8, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Monday night when a 69-year-old woman in a motorized wheelchair was struck and killed while attempting to cross a busy roadway. The incident took place at the intersection of Southwest 34th Street and 27th Avenue.
According to the Ocala Police Department, the call regarding the accident was received at 7:37 p.m., and officers arrived on the scene just four minutes later at 7:41 p.m. Preliminary reports indicate that a 45-year-old woman was driving a GMC Envoy northbound on 27th Avenue in the inside lane when the collision occurred. The victim was reportedly in the crosswalk at the time of the incident.
Witnesses informed police that the driver had a green light when her vehicle struck the woman in the wheelchair. Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying in the roadway. Medical personnel quickly transported her to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The driver was reportedly on her way home at the time of the crash.
