San Luis Obispo, CA (September 17, 2024) – A tragic single-vehicle accident occurred on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of a young man in rural San Luis Obispo. At approximately 11 a.m., Carlos Cordon Rios, 21, was driving southbound on O’Connor Way when he lost control of his vehicle while navigating a curve north of Foothill Boulevard.
Reports indicate that Cordon Rios applied the brakes and sharply turned left, causing his Ford Focus to veer off the road. The vehicle then traveled down an embankment, crashing into the bottom before flipping and becoming airborne, ultimately landing in an agricultural field.
Sadly, Cordon Rios’ passenger, 20-year-old Robert Hess, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. Cordon Rios sustained only minor injuries. Authorities have stated that there is no suspicion of alcohol or drug involvement in this tragic incident.
