Jasper County, MO (October 5, 2024) – A serious motorcycle accident occurred on Friday afternoon, October 4 involving a Harley Davidson and a dump truck on North Schifferdecker in the Snowball area. Emergency services were alerted just after 3:45 PM, prompting a swift response from the Carl Junction Fire Department, Jasper County deputies, and METS ambulance.
Upon arrival, responders found that North Schifferdecker was closed to all traffic from Peace Church Road to the north, with vehicles being rerouted in the vicinity of the crash site. The scene was chaotic as emergency personnel worked to assist those involved.
The preliminary investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) revealed that Gilbert Talamantez, 46, of Carthage, was the sole occupant of a 2015 Harley Davidson Softail Classic. He was traveling south on Schifferdecker when he lost control of the motorcycle while navigating a curve, causing him to overturn and be ejected from the vehicle.
Jakob Farmer, 25, of Webb City, was driving a 1999 Peterbilt 379 dump truck north on Schifferdecker. In an attempt to avoid colliding with Talamantez, Farmer swerved off the right side of the roadway but unfortunately struck both the motorcycle and Talamantez.
METS ambulance transported Talamantez to a local hospital in Joplin, where he was treated for serious injuries. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later transferred to a hospital in Springfield for a higher level of care.
The incident remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details pending notification of family members. Schraders Towing was called to the scene to remove the damaged vehicles and clear debris from the roadway.
