Wixom, MI (October 5, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Thursday evening, October 3 when a 59-year-old woman from Novi was killed after being struck by a vehicle driven by a 94-year-old man. The incident took place around 7:55 p.m. on South Wixom Road at the intersection with Sams Way.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was driving a 2024 Honda CR-V and had stopped behind a 2022 Ford F-350 in traffic. At that moment, the 94-year-old driver, operating a 2010 Nissan Versa, failed to stop and collided with the Honda CR-V.
After the initial impact, the woman exited her vehicle and was standing near the driver’s door when the Nissan accelerated again, hitting the Honda CR-V once more. This second collision caused her to be trapped underneath the vehicle. The force of the crash also pushed the Honda CR-V into the Ford F-350.
Emergency responders arrived promptly, and the woman was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The drivers of both the Nissan and the Ford F-350 were not injured and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have indicated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash; however, the reason for the Nissan driver’s sudden acceleration remains unclear.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time.
Pedestrian Accidents in Michigan
Pedestrian accidents can have devastating consequences, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities. In Michigan, the number of pedestrian-related incidents has raised concerns about safety, particularly in urban areas where traffic can be heavy. Statistics show that pedestrians are particularly vulnerable to injuries in collisions with vehicles, which can lead to life-altering consequences.
In many cases, pedestrian accidents occur due to factors such as driver negligence, distracted driving, or failure to yield. It is crucial for both drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic laws to ensure safety on the roads. Wearing reflective clothing and being aware of surroundings can significantly reduce the risk of accidents for pedestrians.
When accidents occur, it is essential for victims and their families to understand their rights and options. If the accident was caused by the negligence of another party, victims may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
If you or someone you know has been involved in a pedestrian accident, it is important to consult with a knowledgeable personal injury attorney who can help navigate the complexities of the legal system. An experienced attorney can provide guidance on pursuing compensation for injuries and losses sustained in the accident.
