Asheville, NC (October 4, 2024) – The Asheville Police Department is currently investigating a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred in west Asheville. Officers responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Acton Circle and Monte Vista Road at approximately 7:33 p.m. on October 2.
Preliminary investigations indicate that 85-year-old Robert David Bennett was crossing Monte Vista Road when he was hit by a dark-colored sedan. Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Bennett succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Authorities believe the suspect’s vehicle is a black Toyota Prius, which may have a damaged windshield and is missing the Toyota emblem from the front grille. The driver has been described as a white woman. The Asheville Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the incident or the suspect’s vehicle to come forward.
