According to the investigation led by TPR. W.A. Wadlington and assisted by other officers, the crash involved four vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that a 1996 GMC Sierra, driven by 29-year-old Merle R. Hopper, struck the rear of a 2017 Toyota Tacoma, operated by 33-year-old Brandon Phillips. The impact of the crash was severe, leading to the tragic deaths of both Merle R. Hopper and Debra S. Buell. Emergency responders transported the victims to the Amick Burnett Funeral Home and the St. Louis University Hospital for further examination.

Brandon Phillips sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital. Additionally, three other occupants in the Tacoma, including 34-year-old DNAE Phillips and two unidentified minors, were also injured and transported to St. Francis Medical Center for medical treatment.
