Heber, UT (October 2, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on U.S. 40 Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to four others. The incident took place around 2:40 p.m., approximately 17 miles southeast of Heber, leading to the closure of the highway for several hours.
According to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden, the crash involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions. A Volkswagen Passat crossed the center line and collided with a Dodge Ram 2500 truck. Reports indicate that there were four occupants in the Volkswagen, none of whom were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Volkswagen, an adult woman, and a three-year-old girl were both killed in the crash. Additionally, two other children in the vehicle sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were flown to a local hospital for treatment. The two men in the Dodge Ram were also injured and transported by ambulance to the hospital, where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident prompted authorities to close U.S. 40 in both directions for several hours as emergency responders worked at the scene and conducted their investigation. The identities of the individuals who lost their lives in this tragic incident have not yet been released.
