Angier, NC (October 2, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on NC 210 near Old Stage Road, resulting in the death of a motorist. The incident was reported on Monday at approximately 5:27 p.m.
According to the State Highway Patrol, Gregory Wayne Cornell, a 53-year-old resident of Clayton, was traveling southbound on NC 210 in a Chevy Tahoe when his vehicle crossed the centerline. This led to a collision with a Ford box truck that was headed northbound. Following the impact, a tire detached from the Tahoe and struck an Angier police patrol vehicle that was traveling southbound behind Cornell’s SUV. Sadly, Cornell died at the scene due to his injuries.
The driver of the box truck, whose identity has not yet been released, was transported to WakeMed with injuries that remain unspecified. Fortunately, the Angier police officer involved in the incident was not injured.
Trooper J.L. Burton is currently investigating the accident.
