Indian River County, FL (October 1, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred early Sunday morning on Interstate 95, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old man from Boca Raton. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place around 3:45 a.m. on the overpass of State Road 60, specifically at mile marker 147, which is located west of the Vero Beach city limits.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash involved a 2005 tan Honda CR-V sports utility vehicle and a 2019 red Volvo VNL semi-trailer. Both vehicles were traveling southbound in the outside lane when the SUV, which was trailing closely behind the semi-trailer, collided with its rear. The impact was severe, causing the front of the Honda to become wedged underneath the trailer of the truck.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported the driver of the Honda to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The driver of the semi-trailer, a 36-year-old man from Margate, was not injured in the crash.
In the aftermath of the incident, troopers temporarily closed the southbound lanes of I-95 to conduct a thorough examination of the crash site. The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this deadly wreck.
