Lee County, FL (September 30, 2024) – A tragic wrong-way collision on the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 resulted in the death of a 56-year-old woman on Sunday evening. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near mile marker 139.
According to preliminary investigations, an 86-year-old man was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-75 when he collided head-on with a vehicle operated by the woman, who was traveling north at the same mile marker. The impact of the crash caused minor injuries to the male driver, while the female driver sustained critical injuries.
Emergency responders transported the female driver to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The male driver was also taken to an area hospital for treatment of his minor injuries. Fortunately, neither vehicle had any passengers at the time of the incident.
