Pottsville, PA (September 27, 2024) – A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk on Monday afternoon, prompting a response from local police. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of North 3rd Street and Laurel Boulevard.
According to the Pottsville Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of the accident. Upon arrival, they conducted a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation revealed that a 2003 Ford Ranger, driven by 90-year-old Evelyn Branwell of Pottsville, was making a left turn from North 3rd Street onto Laurel Boulevard heading west. At the same time, a 45-year-old female pedestrian from Pottsville was crossing Laurel Boulevard in the marked crosswalk.
Branwell’s vehicle struck the pedestrian in the middle of the intersection, causing her to fall to the ground and sustain minor injuries. Emergency medical services from Schuylkill arrived on the scene to provide medical treatment and subsequently transported the injured pedestrian to Lehigh Valley East Norwegian Street for further evaluation and care.
Fortunately, Branwell did not report any injuries, and her vehicle sustained no damage in the collision. However, a traffic citation was issued to Branwell for failing to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian in the crosswalk.
