Ozark, AL (September 27, 2024) – A serious incident occurred on Andrews Avenue on Thursday evening when a male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. At approximately 5:47 p.m., Ozark-Dale County 911 dispatched the Ozark Police Department and Ozark Fire-Rescue to the scene located at 1671 Andrews Avenue.
Reports indicated that the pedestrian became trapped under the vehicle following the collision. Emergency units, including an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Trooper, promptly arrived on the scene to assess the situation and provide assistance.
As the emergency responders were en route, a fortunate turn of events occurred. A passing wrecker driver noticed the situation and quickly intervened by lifting the vehicle off the trapped pedestrian. This timely action likely prevented further injury to the victim.
Upon assessment, it was determined that the pedestrian was breathing but unconscious. Before Ozark EMS transported him to Flowers Hospital in Dothan under trauma alert, unconfirmed reports suggested that he had regained consciousness. He was reported to be breathing on his own during transport.
The Ozark Police Department is currently in charge of the accident investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
