Ray County, MO (September 25, 2024) – A serious accident occurred on September 24 at approximately 8:58 PM on MO 13 Northbound, just north of Johnny Walker Lane. The incident involved a 2002 Honda Odyssey and resulted in significant injuries to a pedestrian.
According to the investigation, the driver of the Honda Odyssey, 37-year-old Amy L. Roberts from Richmond, MO, was traveling northbound when the front of her vehicle struck the rear of a bicycle that was in the roadway. The impact caused the occupant of the bicycle, 24-year-old Karina A. Rasmussen, also from Richmond, to be ejected from the bike. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and Rasmussen was transported by LifeFlight to Truman Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
The Honda Odyssey sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Green’s Automotive. Fortunately, Roberts was using a safety device at the time of the crash, which may have helped mitigate the severity of her situation.
The Ray County Sheriff’s Department and Richmond Police Department assisted at the scene, ensuring that traffic was managed and the area was cleared promptly.
Our thoughts are with Karina Rasmussen and her family as she undergoes treatment for her injuries.
Pedestrian Accidents in Missouri
Pedestrian accidents are a significant concern in Missouri, with numerous individuals suffering injuries each year. The lack of protection for pedestrians makes them particularly vulnerable to serious injuries when involved in collisions with vehicles. According to state statistics, many pedestrian accidents occur in urban areas, often at night or in low visibility conditions.
The consequences of pedestrian accidents can be devastating, affecting not only the victims but also their families and the community at large. Victims may face extensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and emotional distress, while families often deal with the long-term impacts of their loved ones’ injuries.
In Missouri, it is crucial for victims of pedestrian accidents to understand their legal rights and options. When a pedestrian is injured due to another person’s negligence, they may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
If you or someone you know has been injured in a pedestrian accident, it is essential to seek legal guidance promptly. A knowledgeable personal injury attorney can help navigate the complexities of insurance claims and ensure that victims receive the compensation they deserve.
