Louisville, KY (September 25, 2024) – A tow truck driver was injured during a hit-and-run incident early Monday morning, September 23 but has since been released from the hospital and is now recovering. The search for the individual responsible for the incident is ongoing.
Chris Skaggs, a driver with Suburban Towing, was returning from a job when he noticed an unfamiliar truck with a trailer parked in a lot. The driver of this truck was reportedly rummaging through a personal vehicle belonging to Skaggs’ friend. When Skaggs confronted the man and attempted to take a picture to report the suspicious activity to the police, the driver fled the scene, striking Skaggs in the process.
“He came at me, there was nowhere to go, it was just boom,” Skaggs recounted. “I don’t remember the ambulance ride to the hospital. I don’t remember anything after he hit me.”
During the incident, Skaggs was on the phone with a coworker who heard the commotion and rushed to assist him. Skaggs expressed that without this timely intervention, the situation could have ended much worse. “The picture my wife took of me, it looked like I should’ve been dead, as much blood as I had on my face,” he said.
His manager, Kyle Goff, arrived shortly after the incident and noted that Skaggs’ actions were consistent with his character. “I’ve seen it personally. He would take the shirt off his back for a fellow driver of his, and ultimately that’s what he was doing—helping a fellow tow operator out,” Goff stated.
Our thoughts are with Chris Skaggs as he continues to recover from this traumatic experience.
