Volney, NY (September 25, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of an Oswego County deputy while she was responding to a call. The collision took place at approximately 6:42 a.m. at the intersection of Route 176 and Rowlee Road.
According to deputies, the deputy was driving through the intersection when her vehicle collided with another car. Shortly after a status check was requested by a 911 dispatcher, reports indicated that the deputy’s car was involved in a crash. Multiple callers alerted 911 to the situation, with some reporting that one of the vehicles had flipped at the intersection.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found the deputy trapped in her vehicle. A “heavy rescue” was requested, and she was extricated approximately 15 minutes after the call came in. Unfortunately, the deputy was transported to Oswego Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The identity of the deputy has not been released at this time. The other driver involved in the crash was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Route 176 and Rowlee Road are both two-lane rural roads, and there are stop signs for Rowlee Road at the intersection. The circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation by local authorities.
