Nipomo, CA (September 25, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the death of 37-year-old Levi Lopez from Nipomo. The incident took place around 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Hutton Road and Joshua Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision involved Lopez, who was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Hutton Road, and 36-year-old Genaro Cortez Beltran of Bakersfield, who was driving a Nissan pickup truck southbound. Reports indicate that Beltran made a U-turn directly in front of Lopez, leading to the motorcycle crashing into the passenger side of the truck.
Despite wearing safety gear, Lopez suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision. Following the crash, Beltran attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by an off-duty CHP officer who was in the vicinity. Investigators confirmed that impairment was not a contributing factor in the accident.
