Wellington, KS (September 24, 2024) – A serious motorcycle accident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Sumner County, resulting in significant injuries to the rider. The crash was reported at approximately 2:20 p.m. on eastbound US-160 highway, just east of Oliver Road, about six miles east of Wellington.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2002 Chevrolet Impala was traveling on US-160 when, for reasons that remain unclear, it struck the rear of a 1999 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle. The impact of the collision led to serious injuries for the motorcycle’s rider, identified as 44-year-old Shannon Skinner from Haysville. Emergency responders transported Skinner to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. It is noted that Skinner was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
A passenger on the motorcycle, 39-year-old Kimberly Davidson from Anthony, was also taken to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Davidson was wearing her helmet during the incident as well.
The driver of the Chevrolet Impala, 64-year-old Allision Leedy from Ponca City, Oklahoma, was transported to William Newton Hospital in Winfield for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Leedy was reportedly wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
