Georgetown, KY (September 20, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred early Friday morning, resulting in the death of 30-year-old Joshua Shepherd, a resident of Georgetown. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at Cherry Blossom Way near the overpass at Exit 129 just before 7 a.m. following reports of a collision between a motorcycle and an SUV.
According to Georgetown Police Assistant Chief Josh Nash, preliminary investigations revealed that Shepherd was traveling westbound on Cherry Blossom Way, crossing over the 129 overpass when the SUV made a left-hand turn onto northbound I-75. Unfortunately, the collision resulted in fatal injuries for Shepherd, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Assistant Chief Nash highlighted the concerning trend of motorcycle fatalities, noting that speed is often a contributing factor in such incidents. While it remains unclear if speed played a role in this particular crash, he mentioned that the early morning hour, around 6:50 a.m., could have contributed to low visibility conditions, which can pose additional risks for both motorcyclists and drivers.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Joshua Shepherd during this difficult time.
