Houston, TX (September 20, 2024)- A tragic incident occurred late Thursday night in northwest Houston, resulting in the death of a woman who was struck by a patrol car while crossing the street with her three children. The accident took place around 11 p.m. on Antoine Street near Pinemont Drive, as reported by the Houston Police Department.
At the time of the crash, two officers were in the patrol car—a male passenger and a female driver—transporting a narcotics suspect to jail. Witnesses informed HPD that the woman had just exited a bus with her three children and was not using a crosswalk when she crossed the street. It is believed that she dropped something, and as she bent down to retrieve it, she was hit by the patrol car. Police stated that speed was not a factor in the incident, which occurred in a poorly lit area.
Emergency responders provided first aid at the scene, and the woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, she later succumbed to her injuries. The victim has been identified as a 41-year-old woman, although her exact age is reported to be in her mid-30s to early 40s. One of her children is 18 years old, while the ages of the other two children, who are juveniles, have not been disclosed.
The officers involved in the incident, as well as the narcotics suspect, were not injured. The suspect was subsequently transported to jail in a different unit. The Houston Police Department’s vehicular crime division and internal affairs are conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim during this incredibly difficult time.
