Manitowoc County, WI (September 20, 2024) – A tragic traffic accident occurred early Friday morning, September 20, at approximately 4:54 a.m. in the Township of Schleswig, involving two vehicles in a head-on collision. Deputies from the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office and EMS personnel responded to the scene at the intersection of CTH X and Louis Corners Road.
Preliminary investigations indicate that an 18-year-old man from Malone, Wisconsin, was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound on CTH X when it collided with a westbound 2018 Ford Focus, operated by a 72-year-old man from rural Kiel, Wisconsin. Unfortunately, the 72-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, highlighting the severity of the crash.
The 18-year-old driver sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was transported via ThedaStar to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah, Wisconsin, for urgent medical care. The Wisconsin State Patrol is currently assisting with a crash reconstruction as part of the ongoing investigation.
