Lawndale, NC (September 19, 2024) – Two students were killed, and a third was critically injured in a two-vehicle accident near Burns High School on Wednesday afternoon. The crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on E Stage Coach Trl, as students were being dismissed from class.
Troopers reported that 18-year-old Dequavious Hopper, driving a Ford Focus, attempted to turn left in front of a Ford F-450, failing to yield the right of way. Hopper and 14-year-old backseat passenger Jaelyn Abraham were killed in the collision. A third teen, seated in the front, was taken to Atrium Health Cleveland in critical condition. Authorities are investigating the crash and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
