Wessington, SD (September 18, 2024) – A construction zone worker tragically died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on US HWY 14 on Tuesday, September 17. The incident occurred around 12:55 p.m., two miles east of Wessington, near mile marker 319.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 27-year-old male driving a 2022 Dodge Ram was traveling westbound when he entered a construction zone. A construction worker, a 44-year-old female flagger, was on-site directing traffic to slow down and stop. While the Dodge stopped as directed, a 2023 International MV607 approached and collided with the Dodge, subsequently striking the flagger. The flagger suffered fatal injuries, while both drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.
Further information will be provided as the investigation continues.
