Louisville, KY (September 17, 2024) – A Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) bus was involved in a collision on Tuesday morning, resulting in several children being hospitalized. The incident occurred around 9:40 AM near the intersection of Barret and Baxter Avenues.
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Fifth Division, preliminary investigations indicate that an SUV was traveling south on Baxter when it attempted to make a right turn onto Barret. During this maneuver, JCPS bus 1737 reportedly pulled out in front of the SUV, leading to a collision between the two vehicles.
At the time of the accident, there were 40 students on board the bus. Emergency services, including Louisville Fire and Rescue, were dispatched to the scene to provide assistance. Seven children from the bus were transported to Norton Children’s Hospital with injuries that have been described as non-life-threatening. The driver of the SUV was evaluated by EMS at the scene but did not report any injuries. Fortunately, the driver of the bus was unharmed.
The Fifth Division of the Louisville Metro Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
