Lebanon, IN (September 17, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Monday afternoon involving a dump truck and a pickup truck on State Road 47, resulting in the death of a 34-year-old man. The incident was reported just before 2 PM in the 3000 block of State Road 47 East, located in a rural area approximately four miles east of the I-65 interchange and about a 15-minute drive northeast of Lebanon, the Boone County seat.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Kyle Smith, a resident of Kirklin, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Emergency responders arrived to find Smith’s white 2008 Chevrolet Silverado significantly damaged. The driver of the dump truck, identified as 61-year-old Scott Pickett from Lafayette, was found in an overturned vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
