Smithton, MO (September 10, 2024) – A pedestrian sustained moderate injuries after being struck by a vehicle at S Walnut Ave and Washington St on Monday. The incident occurred around 5:23 p.m. when a 2000 Ford Explorer, driven by 66-year-old Terry Wetzig, made a left turn and hit 25-year-old Chella Washburn, a pedestrian from Smithton, MO.

Washburn, who was not wearing a safety device, was taken to MU Hospital by APT EMS for treatment. Wetzig, from McGirk, MO, drove away from the scene after the accident.

The Pettis County Deputy assisted at the scene, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the incident. Further details will be provided as the inquiry progresses.
