Opelika, AL (September 9, 2024) – A head-on crash on Saturday, September 7, at 7:17 PM resulted in one fatality and two injuries on the I-85 Exit 62 Northbound ramp.
Authorities confirmed that a Tesla and a Toyota 4Runner collided head-on, with the Tesla catching fire. Responding officers extinguished the flames long enough to assist the victims. The driver of the Tesla, 50-year-old Dr. Malcolm Goodchild, was airlifted to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital, where he later died.
The Tesla’s passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the 4Runner driver remains hospitalized with serious injuries. Officials believe the 4Runner was traveling the wrong way on the exit ramp.
