Melbourne, FL – Pedestrian Killed in Accident on SR A1A at Matador St

Melbourne, FL (September 6, 2024) – A 50-year-old Melbourne woman was fatally struck by a vehicle on Thursday night, September 5, on SR A1A near Patrick Space Force Base. Florida Highway Patrol reports the woman walked into the southbound lanes at Matador St around 8:37 p.m., directly into the path of a 2024 Ford Escape driven by a 75-year-old Pennsylvania woman.

The pedestrian was hit by the front of the vehicle and later pronounced dead at Viera Hospital. The driver and her three passengers were uninjured and remained at the scene.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash and are expected to provide updates as more information becomes available.
