Fort Thompson, SD (September 3, 2024) – A crash on South Dakota Highway 34, three miles east of Fort Thompson, resulted in one fatality and one critical injury early Sunday, September 2. 

A 38-year-old man driving westbound lost control of his SUV, which left the roadway, vaulted over a driveway approach. He crashed into the south ditch. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The 23-year-old male passenger sustained life-threatening injuries. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. 

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
